There is no honor among thieves is the common saying that Thief of Thieves #1 seems to be basing it’s core story on. Our story starts out the same as every great thief story I have ever read or watched with our protagonist dangling from a rope while arguing with someone over a headset. It’s the stuff that immediately draws my attention in cause I know whats coming next. Or at least I think I do since this new title from writer Robert Kirkman and artist Nick Spencer manages to put a plot twist in before you even see it coming. After recovering from the twist we are treated to a nice witty flashback of our two main characters meeting for the first time but there seems to be a darker side to the story lurking behind the scenes. Our story ends with the coolest looking thieves guild I’ve ever seen in a comic and of course with a huge cliffhanger that will leave the reader begging for more and counting down the days for issue number two.

Kirkman does an excellent job of moving along the characters but does seem to rush a bit over some dialogue making it feel a little forced and out of place. The art on the other hand makes me feel like I’m a big time jewel thief living in the 70’s and partying it up. The colors used in this issue definitely sets the mood for a comic that while on the surface seems playful and witty I just feel that there are some darker undertones to these characters that will slowly start to surface as plot twist after plot twist lead to conflict between our lead characters and the inevitable bad guys wreak havoc.

Script: 8/10
Art: 7/10
Parental Concern: Yellowad
