Do you get enough comic book in your diet?  Or are you seriously malnourished due to that empty bank account?  Look no further my fellow geeks!  At Stashmycomics (SMC) you can indulge your hunger for all things comic book in a number of ways that are ever expanding as the site grows for FREE!  I for one have no money budgeted for comics due to the bad economy and personal circumstances, but keep coming back to this website daily to get my fix.  I can tell you first hand that it does the trick, let me count the ways…

1.  Have you ever thought, “Gee, all my comic books just sit and collect dust after I read them?”  Well, SMC allows you, the user, to submit detailed information that is specific to each of your books.  Want to keep track of each appearance of your favorite character?  Is there an artist you enjoy above all others you would like to catalog in your collection?  SMC gives you the perfect outlet to do just that and more including adding correct dates, creative teams, editors,  and preview information…perfect for the completist in you! What better way to truly get everything out of your comic book investment?  All you need to do is click the “update issue info” located under the cover image on the issue page.  Click here for an example issue page!

2.  Speaking of stretching your comic book dollar…how about re-reading those old dusty comic books to rate and review in your collection? Not only will you have a chance to share your favorites with others connected through SMC, but you may also spark conversation at the same time. If you haven’t noticed the top right corner of our homepage is dedicated to spotlighting user reviews!

3.  Looking to keep up with industry news, check out reviews on new and old books, listen to a hoard of geeks yuk it up on the SMC podcast, read/hear interviews with comic creators, or read some of the more unique articles you can find around the net? No need to purchase an entertainment news magazine…just visit the SMC blog, where all this happens in one place without the ugly cover price!  Content can be found on our blog almost every day of the week, and sometimes a few times a day.

4.  The more time you spend hanging around SMC the easier it will be to make it through those long weeks abscent of brand new books. If the site is missing something, join us in the forums and let us know! Our geek leader and site creator, Igor, will gladly hear you out and give your idea a fair shake. We love fresh faces, and this site is powered by geek energy, so please join us!

Well, I hope this month’s Geek on a Budget has given you another avenue to satisfy your comic book cravings without the financial damage!  If you indulge in what SMC has to offer, I’m sure you will find as I have the satisfaction of geeking out without the stress of giving up my hard earned dollar.

A great reminder of what I love about this site Chip.

Updating my books is actually very calming and satisfying for me. It’s a method of relaxation almost for me.

Like knitting or something like that.

I love that you just compared knitting and comic books!

Great article Chip! I agree with Jason, I love to just sit here and catalog and update my comics. My wife can’t quite understand why I enjoy that so much. She says: “You just sit there. What are you doing?” Well, I’m looking at my issues! So soothing, lol.
