Deviantart.com is a treasure trove for the comic art fan. Once in a while you come across an artist such as Warren Louw whose style is quite distinct and interesting. I personally don’t judge an artist’s skill by how photo-real he or she can draw and I don’t hold photo-realistic artists in higher regard than artists who stylize their drawings. But as far as photo-realism goes, Louw is one of the better ones doing the style out there. He uses photo realism as one tool among many but doesn’t exclusively rely on it. His interesting use of photoshop brush work is distinguishing as much as his command of color and values. I’d like to see Louw do more action shots and less pin ups but I still think he’s an artist to keep an eye on. Check out a gallery of some of his more striking work.
