right? So how did you start collecting? I only started about 5 months ago. I've always been a huge gamer, and I've followed a fair amount of Marvel in game format - fighting games and Spider-man games mostly - as well as having watched some of the cartoons as a kid and I still follow all of the comic book movies. I have a few friends who are into graphic novels but it never appealed to me - I'd tried comics as a kid but I always felt they were too short in comparison to a book. That, and I always felt the sheer amount of comics available was a bit daunting as I'd have no idea what to read. That said, I've owned a few manga titles for a couple of years - Devil May Cry and Kingdom Hearts. Again, that's more my gamer side that caused that, though. Anyway... I just moved to Colchester (in the UK, where I live), and for the first time I have access to a decent comic book store. I love going there for game memorabilia and stuff. A little while before the release of Batman: Arkham City on consoles, I had replayed Arkham Asylum and felt like giving a Batman comic book a try, having loved the story and characters (except Batman, haha. While I love his gadgets and stuff, I always find him a bit corny. I just love his villains.) Anyway, I ended up getting a copy of Arkham City HC, as it apparently was a bridge between the two games, and what better time to read it? After enjoying that, (and completing Arkham City on PS3) I found out that DC were *just* relaunching the New 52 which was a perfect time to begin reading, and I started picking up the new Batman and Catwoman series. Now I'm hooked. How many comics are in collection approximately? Exactly 18 comics (8 Marvel, 10 DC) and 6 graphic novels (4 Marvel, 2 DC), totalling to 24. Not a lot I know! I can't believe how many some of you guys have. What do you like to collect? I first tried Batman, Catwoman and Nightwing of the New 52. I've collected all of the Batman/Catwoman comics so far, with Issue #5 ready to pick up tomorrow. Ditched Nightwing after Issue #2 as I didn't find him very interesting. I also tried the new Incredible Hulk, Avenging Spider-Man and Marvel Ultimates series. Have stuck with Incredible Hulk and Avenging Spider-man, but didn't enjoy Ultimates so stopped that after Issue #2. So four comics I'm following at the moment - 2 DC and 2 Marvel. It's a bit early to say which ones I'll enjoy most (though I'll probably follow all of them to the end of the story arc) but I think I prefer Marvel, which isn't a surprise to me really seeing as I always liked the X-Men and Spider-Man as a child. Got some graphic novels for Christmas - including the Killing Joke and Civil War. I can see why the Killing Joke is considered a great read, but so far Civil War is probably the best thing I've read. I just love the friction between sides, and the all-star cast. I also got Ultimate Comics: Avengers which is also written by Mark Millar, and I enjoyed both so I'm going to look into his other work later. I also want to read some more Civil War stuff, such as the Amazing Spider-Man: Civil War. I've just subscribed to the Marvel Ultimate Graphic Novels Collection (as I've talked about in it's own thread), and it seems like an excellent place to get me started. Can't wait to read X-men Dark Phoenix, Iron Man: Extremis and Birth of Venom, as well as some of the more obscure titles in there. It seems well suited to me seeing as the books also give you a run-down of the story so far, as well as "Further reading" and info on the creators of each title. The number #1 thing that matters to me about comic books is a good art style. As an adult I've taken up a much bigger interest in good art (though I suck at making my own), and I can't enjoy a good story in comic book form if I don't like the style. That's why I'm not reading the new Deadpool series. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Catwoman and Batman are the longest series, but only because they started first. I think that including the graphic novels, and Batman's probably in more books than anyone else seeing as he also features in some of Catwoman and two of my graphic novels. I think this will change pretty quickly though, as I'm going to be buying more Marvel than DC stuff in future. Spider-man is probably the next most prevalent character in my series after Batman, but I wouldn't say I have a favourite Marvel character. It's too close and depends what mood I'm in. So that's it! Pretty much my entire comic book history! All I can say is I'm really getting into it, and with 4 comics and 2 graphic novels due once a month, I'm reading at every opportunity I get. people into comics! Sweet! Very true, although I think even if I hadn't played games I probably would have gotten into them eventually. The movies or boredom (from having all that time I wasn't gaming!) would have no doubt pushed me that way :P I'd say it's more just an interest in fantasy stories and stuff :) But then, I guess it was the Arkham games that really made me like Batman. Edit: Just realised how relevant today's article is to my post! Pretty much exactly my sentiments on how it changed my opinion of Batman :) Edited by LeonBelmontX - 18 January 2012 at 5:14pm |

Groupie![]() Joined: 31 March 2011 | So how did you start collecting? I started collecting when I received comics as christmas gifts. I believe that either the Sears or the JCPenney catalog had a box of 50 comics as a gift option. I also started collecting when a comic shop opened close to where I lived, so I took my allowance and bought comics with it. My "unofficial" count is 1,456. It is unofficial because I moved from my parents house to another state back in 2003, and I didn't bring my comics with me. I will one day have to take a road trip and get them! This number is also about to jump because I am getting 35 comics with my comic book membership from Cardsone.com, and then I am purchasing a comic package totaling 50 pounds within the next few days. What do you like to collect? I am a sucker for the 90's comics, the ones with foil covers, polybagged with a trading card...all of those gimmick comics. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Although I am more of a Marvel fan, I would have to say that the character most found in my collection is Batman. |

I've been collecting for roughly 35 years. My father collected the old EC comics (Tales from the Crypt, etc.), so I inherited the comic-collecting gene from him. When I bought an early Spider-Man comic, I was hooked and have been hooked ever since. I actually gave up comics about 10 years ago after being disappointed with the mediocre stories through the 90s. But when I looked through some Straczynci issues in Spider-Man, I started up again and have been collecting more than ever thanks to new writers such as Bendis, Hickman, Brubaker, and so forth. How many comics are in collection approximately? Roughly 8500. What do you like to collect? I've been a Marvel fan forever, so the vast majority of what I collect comes from them, Spidey, Hulk, Avengers, etc., although I have been collecting much more of DC's stuff lately ever since Identity Crisis and John's work on Green Lantern. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Spider-Man, no doubt, over 1,000 in that stash alone. Edited by ArteestX - 29 January 2012 at 12:12am |

I'm not alone! haha Seriously. I'm working on collecting a few older series right now... ones that interest me, aren't really available in TPB form, and are fairly inexpensive on a per-issue basis. Namely, I'm snatching up Azrael, Cable, and Deathstroke, getting most issues for around a buck a piece through the StashMyComics affiliate store. Not sure why, exactly, but something about those comics appeal to me. Many people I know hate on 90's comics, but I love 'em. They gave me Gambit! :D @LeonBelmontX: Yay! There were comic books in my life from my earliest memories. Growing up with two older sisters, I remember them both being big fans of all the ARCHIE titles as well as all sorts of romance comics. My parents bought me comics too & lots of 'em as a wee lad, but the first comic book that I distinctly recall owning was AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #78. Which my Mom got for me at the local drugstore when I was 8. From that day on I was hooked & was seriously into collecting by the time I was ten. And, it being the early '70s, I was able to put together complete or near complete runs of all the most popular Marvel titles within a few years time ( with plenty of help from my parents, of course ). I continued collecting all the way up until I was 18, when, as I was preparing to go to college I decided to not only stop collecting, but to sell off my 3500 comics as well. Which I did in short order, against my parents wishes, for just a fraction of what they were worth at the time. Something that I began to regret damned near immediately afterwards. Fact is, I was so sick about it that I could barely look at a comic book for years without being tormented by feelings of remorse. Seriously. So much so that in the mid-'90s when I began to collect all the Topps THE X-FILES comics, I didn't consider it to even remotely be a return to comic collecting, I just looked at it as adding to my X-FILES memorabilia collection. It wasn't until two years ago in 2010 that I got back into comic book collecting. Initially, I had just gone into my LCS to look for the first issue of Dark Horse's reboot of an old favorite of mine in CREEPY, which I'd read a story about in FANGORIA magazine. But, once I got inside the shop, something just "clicked" & I walked out with a stack of books. At 48 years old, some 30 years removed from the last time I'd collected, I became a comic book collector again. And here I am at 50, enjoying the hobby more than I have at any other time of my life. How many comics are in collection approximately? At the moment, I'm just a wee bit shy of 1300. What do you like to collect? Too many titles for my budget that's for sure! LOL But, my focus is predominantly on Spider-man & horror titles. ASM, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, AVENGING SPIDER-MAN, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, FERALS, DARK SHADOWS, SWAMP THING, BATMAN & a handful of others are on my pull list. With my back issues focus being on ASM, ULTIMATE SPIDER- MAN, CROSSED & WEST COAST AVENGERS. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Spider-man. __________________ Jim |

Newbie![]() ![]() Joined: 11 March 2012 | Hey gang - very new to the Stash boards, just started adding my comics. So how did you start collecting? While I have a large collection, I consider myself much more of a reader of comics, it is just that I keep so damn many of them :) How many comics are in collection approximately? Roughly 600+ trades, OGN's and Hardcovers. My single issues would be somewhere around 5,000 I would suspect. These numbers are way down from where they were int he past, I did several purges over the past several years of things I just was never going to read again or lend out. What do you like to collect? Plain and simple I just love tracking down great stories, and am always up for suggestions. I tend to stay away from hardcover treatments, just because of the cost involved, but some of my favorite books on my shelves are hardcovers (The Coffin, Punisher Max, etc) Currently I am still trying to fill in my Gen 13 collection, which many consider a guilty pleasure, but I just have so many fond memories of that series. Not trying to get everything, just some of the holes in the stuff I want. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Punisher and X-Men, although not really a great reflection in the diversity of the type of stuff I read ;) Some of my favorite characters have been members of Gen 13, Blue Beetle, Punisher, Runaways, Jesse Custer, etc. |

Newbie![]() ![]() Joined: 31 January 2012 | Hey everyone. I'm relatively new to the site and thought it was time to say hi and answer the newbie questions. So How Did You Start Collecting? I think my story is pretty standard. I collected as a kid (Late 80s, Early 90s), but stopped as I grew older (although I still have the comics). Last year, a friend and I attended SDCC where I learned all about "The New 52." I saw this as a great time to jump back in, and have been collecting since. How Many Comics Are In Your Collection Approximately? The site says 554. This included my graphic novels and such but that is a very small portion of my collection (10%). What Do You Like To Collect? I've really been hitting the "New 52" stuff pretty hard and enjoying it. I really like Aquaman, Catwoman, Justice League, Green Lantern, Swamp Thing. I've been really trying to jump over to Marvel lately but not much has been sticking with me. Wolverine & The X-Men is okay along with Ultimate Comics: X-Men. Also, I just read Saga and look forward to reading more of that. Which Title/Character is Most Found In Your Collection? I have a lot of early 90s Superman and X-Men. But my favorite character these days, by far, is Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). I am really digging Geoff Johns run and have been working to collect and read the whole thing. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and look forward to interacting with you guys in the future. |

Newbie![]() Joined: 11 April 2012 | Heey guys just got me a stashmycomics account so a lot of work yet to
be done So how did you start collecting? I was about 10 years old ( so almost 12 years ago) i found my father's comics at my grandparents house and start reading them eventualy they gave them to me and so my first small collection had started. From then on i bought comics on a regular base and am still doing so. I still visit my local comic store every wednesday. How many comics are in collection approximately? It's close to a 1000 single issues and 250 hard covers What do you like to collect? Mostly Marvel comics except for a few game based comics and image comics spawn and the Walking Dead. I collect a lot of comics by artist so it depends. I'm an art student in the netherlands so that reflexs in my comic collection ass wel as the influences of comics in my artwork. Which title/character is most found in your collection? I'm an huge fan of both deadpool and spider-man i like the humor in it. So from new mutants 98 to the most recent deadpool can almost all be found in my collection ass single issues or as HC. The amazing spider-man is my moet favorite spidey series so i got a lot of issues from him ass well. Asside from the spider-man and deadpool comics i collect events such ass civil war , secret invasion , dark reign , siege , fear itself and most recently avengers vs x-men. And also i collect a lot of avengers based comics such as avengers, new avengers and captain america his own series __________________ "Ah, go web your zipper closed." |

I just started cause I have a 13 daughter and she is into super heroes stuff quite a bit and it is something we can fun together with... She has her own collection as I do mine but we go to the store once a month we hope to change that to twice a month but it all depends on myself since i have some medical issues... That said it is fun... I am starting to collect a few series... with the new 52 starting I thought it would be a great time to start... I have started with Nightwing he is one of my favorite characters... Batman cause I found out there will be tie ins with the nightwing series and lets face is Batman pretty badass... Also Started with a Justice league of the new 52 and looking to picking up the flashes new series and going to start Invincible Iron Man and Amazing Spiderman aiming for the volume from 99 to present... Other than that...video game series of comic books will be another thing I will eye... Things like Uncharted or Batman Arkham or the Mass effect series... Other than that... I hope to meet you all on the forum threads... cheers.... __________________ "Evil People Suck" |
