I just wanted to pop in for a friendly recommendation of Minutemen to those who haven't read it. Simply put, it's a fun read. Darwyn Cooke definitely gets a high five with this one. For those who've read Watchmen, you'll probably catch some cool details here or there. I gladly wait to hear your opinions!

Hmm I may have to give it a shot. I liked the preview I read.

It should be in the mail to me as we speak.

However I would be interested to hear from a fan of the original
Watchmen if you feel it this new "Before Watchmen" series will be a
worthwhile addition to the universe.

I definitely think this series has a place in the universe. While it does separate itself into a story newcomers can enjoy, readers of Watchmen will recognize/understand a little more with certain parts of Minutemen.
My bro has never read Watchmen but he genuinely thought this was a great start to the series. I'm sure Darwyn Cooke will continue throwing things in only Watchmen readers will fully grasp but he probably won't alienate newcomers.

I'd recommend reading Alan Moore's Watchmen first in order to understand where some of the characters are coming from. No worries if you pick up Minutemen first, though. You'll just have a different interpretation of certain story points (which is totally cool). Heck, you'll probably be motivated to check out Watchmen, which everybody should give a shot.

Come to think of it, It'd be pretty interesting for a person to read Minutemen before Watchmen! It's sort of like how a friend of mine, who hadn't watched Star Wars before, decided to start from chronological order.

Sadly I have only the film to guide me through all things Watchmen.
This is disappointing as I usually love to appreciate source material
before I see the film. a rare exception.

So it does leave me in quite a pickle, I have ordered the original
Watchmen but unsure if it's worth reading before the prequels.

Although if I read Before Watchmen first I'll have to wait for all of them
to be released before I will finally get chance to read the original which
has already been on my reading list for far too long.

I watched the Star Wars films in chronological order over a weekend
recently and it did make me appreciate the prequel films more than I
did through countless other previous viewings. So there could be
something in it.

I see what you mean, man. Like you said, it's gonna be some time until all the comics are released. I'd personally read Watchmen first since the prequel probably caters more to those who've done so, and you won't have to wait for the new releases. However you go at reading it, tell me how it goes. Even though I'm a bit sketchy on Watchmen since it's been a few years since I've read it, feel free to ask me any questions.

Finally got round to reading it. Watchmen hasn't arrived yet and I ran
out of things to read so I gave it a shot.

Was a really good read, even to a newcomer to watchmen like me. A
great introduction to the whole series.

If you have the Watchmen grapic novel on order, read that as soon as you get it.  It's an amazing piece of comic history, and such a joy to read.

If you've already read Minutemen first, no worries. Read Watchmen as soon as you can.
