Ape4Comics Podcast: Episode #4
Oct 19, 2012 by     4 Comments    Posted In: Podcast

Episode #4 finds Matt loaning Neil an old Dark Horse book from 1993 called Out of the Vortex #1. It’s a bright 90’s gem and the main character has an eyeball on his chest. Enough said. Neil lets Matt read Avenging Spider-Man #5 from his collection, where Spidey attempts to bring out the nerd in Captain America. The Special Feature this week gets spooky when the guys discuss horror comic books. Learn why just about every Scott Snyder book can fall into that category and what sorts of creepy things Dark Horse has to offer.

    Great show guys!

I’ve never read Out of the Vortex, but I am huge into X, from Dark Horse. That’s a great read that I recommend to both of you. I’ll be checking out Out of the Vortex!

One horror issue that may catch your eye is What If? #24 which is What if Wolverine became Lord of the Vampires. It’s a really great single issue, and one of my personal favorites. You both should check it out.

Can’t wait for the next episode!

If I’m not mistaken (which I could be) I’m the friend that is in to iZombie that Neil mentioned. I fell in love with that series as well, and sadly I think this was one of the final slats on the bridge that Chris Roberson burned with Vertigo. While I love the Allred art work (Mike and Laura both, his wife is usually always his colorist) I was really intrigued by Roberson’s writing. I like how everything in the series, be it freeing the Were-Terrier’s chimp uncle to the Dead Presidents battling it out with a super zombie and a brain in a jar, had an adventurous feel to it. I highly reccomend Memorial, a Hardcover Trade that recently came out writted by Chris Roberson with art by Rich Ellis. I’ll throw either of you a green B&D buck to help buy it. Thanks again for another great podcast!!

Aaron, YES! iZombie was such a fun book and within the first issue you really find yourself caring about the characters. So much stuff going on in the book that it made every issue memorable. I’ll have to check out your recommendation. Thanks!
