My Public Stash

Right now, I am reading Guardians Of The Galaxy (1990).  I cleaned house at one of the SDCC booths on Sunday, the last day of the show... the best day to shop!  I picked up a little over half the series at 10 for a buck!  I have 1-25 straight through and the issues jump around after that.  I've been picking up the missing issues here and there from dollar boxes around town.

What books have you found in the bargain boxes that have far exceeded their price tags?

I found around 150 of the Spawn comics at a half-price books. Got most of them for .50. Of course I couldn't them all at once but they were still there for a couple weeks. Now they're sitting in my collection. I have almost all of them now.

Wow...I really need to get to a ComicCon some day!  I never find deals like that.  Store around here just does books that guide under $5 for $2.  I have been picking up issues of Omega Men (the first series), and have REALLY enjoyed it, but at $2 an issue it'll take me some time to get through it.

I found THIS for 6 UK pounds. It's still available HERE, for about 21-28 UK pounds, including S&H.

Raided a local flea market last summer and picked up several issues of Of Ghost Manor and Ghost Tales from Charlton. Early to mid 70"s issues. Suprisingly good condition. Got them for a buck a piece.

Actually, there's this great comic book store here in
Portland called Excalibur that Brian Michael Bendis
frequents, (I was actually in the store one time when he
was there too, but I was way too nervous to ask him to sign
my Siege: The Cabal that I was picking up) and they've got
at least 10 long boxes FULL of comics for a buck. Most of
my collection actually came from those boxes. If the place
wasn't as far away as it is to my house, I would go there
easily, every week.

My local shop has four or five longboxes full of older books all three for a dollar! I picked up nearly all of Crossgen's Sojourn for just over five bucks.

I'm a fan of collecting affordable first appearances, and recently found a
Showcase #75 (1st appearance of Hawk and Dove) for about $17! I think it's
about a VG.

Back in 02 i got Daredevil 131 & 132,Over 100 Amazing Spideys
& a huge chunk of late 70's & early 80's Uncanny X-men all for a buck a piece... wish i would have had more money. The stores owner had a partner who handled the comics. The guy died & he really didn't know about comics or want to sell books anymore..So many great books for a dollar..even if you didn't collect some of the titles, just on value alone it was crazy to walk in & see a $1 sign & think"wait, what's the catch"...About 20 long boxes, all the classic titles were there...Time Machine Please!!!

I think the best comic deal I EVER got was a full set, including issue one of Kamandi at 50c an issue. It was in about 1988, and I was on holiday, and I sacrificed an evening of drinking, dining and sex for it.

A worthy trade, methinks, though the girl in question didn't like the 'I'll never get a deal like this again, you I can have sex with ANYTIME!!!'

A copy of New Mutants 98 for under a buck at a local thrift shop.  I made a tidy profit on it (I already have a copy of my own).

I dont have a store near me, but went to the Anaheim comic con and found Uncanny X-men #202 in a 50 cent bin. Also found a bunch of issues in the 400-500 issue range. I have almost all of the issues I bought in that range but couldnt pass up the 50 cent price tag anything X-men for me at a fraction of cover price is like crack for me, gimme my fix!! Jason awesome flea market pick ups, do you think marvel had a look at Capt Canucks costume when they did Guardians one for Alpha Flight? hehe just kinda funny, great buys tho!

Not a "typical" find, but for $2 at a garage sale I found a CdRom that has the
first 18 issues of the Marvel Star Trek series, and all the movie adaption
comic books including the Next Generation season finale in comic form.
Total comics = 26 for a whopping $2. SWEET!
