My Public Stash

My hometown comic con was this past weekend, and I picked up just a few things....

a couple of treasury editions...

a couple of toys/action figures...

a bunch of $5 trades...

some fun little things out of a 3/$1 box...

some comic magazines...

with those 2 Savage Sword issues, I am down to an even dozen issues to complete the run now...

some $1 comics...

some $1 Charlton books...

a big pile of Rom issues out a $1 box...

and one dealer was selling stuff at $3 a pop even though it was all stickered at $10-$25 each, so all these were $3 each...

I also picked up a piece of Thundarr art I had commissioned from Justin Wasson, one of the con guest creators a few weeks before the show...

and commissioned Dave Aikins to do a Micronauts cover sketch for me while I was at the show...

plus got a few of the Halloween Comicfest freebies at the door and an issue of Dark Horse Presents featuring the first part of recent Harvey Award winner Chad
Lambert's Kill or Be Killed, which he had at his table and was signing.

I may do one more show in either late November or early December (there's 2 options within an easy driving distance and I can only do 1 if I do anything else this
year), but I think my major acquisitions for the year are done.

I'm acquainted with Dave Aikins. In fact, I introduced him to Mike Royer. HELL of an artist!!!!!

Yes he is. I am enamored of that sketch cover, and I have a couple more I plan on asking/commissioning him to do next con I see him at. Hes fairly local, so does a lot of
area shows, at least the ones put on by a certain promoter in the area.

That's pretty much the priority targets of what I am collecting right now (just add Micronauts toys, Phantom and Heavy Metal and you pretty much hit it all the priority
stuff).

You'll appreciate my next purchase post, in that case. All I have to do is scan them.

Nice!

I finished Warlord a couple years back and Conan the Barbarian last year. I've focused on Savage Sword this year and only need a dozen issue sto complete the
run now. I've been slowly working on the DC and Marvel Tarzan runs too. I only meed 1 issue and 1 annual for the Marvel run now, and somewhere between 15-20
of the DC Tarzan issues.

Hmm. I went back 3 years in this thread and it looks like I never posted this purchase. Reprints, sure, but the whole lot of them cost $10

This just about closes out this round of purchases. A few more comics coming in the mail and it'll be time to hibernate.

Great stuff as always Scott. I actually don't have much Conan Saga except for the stuff I bought when it was coming out (the last year or so's worth of issues) and
a few random issues I picked up here or there. Not sure if I am enough of a Conan fanatic to put the run together after putting together Conan the Barbarian and
almost finishing Savage Sword. I do need to get a handful of issues of the 90s Marvel Conan mini-series too, but they are harder to find than the other stuff.

One of the local shops is having a warehouse sale next weekend, so I might pick up some stuff there, but I think I might be done for the year too. I am watching a
couple things in the December Lonestar auction, but nothing that is a real priority for me, so I doubt I will bite on anything unless the price is a golden opportunity.
If anything, I might pick up a few trade collections with Amazon giftcards I get for the holidays or what not. I was going to do a show last weekend, but it conflicted
with my wife's family's X-Mas gathering, so I didn't go.

There are however, a number of interesting shows lined up for spring and summer next year though.

Nice ink, John :) I don't have any super hero themed ink :(

Nice pick ups, too. I wonder if The Stand has anywhere near the awesomeness of the novel.

Not new, but it was news to me While re-scanning some books, I discovered one of the Strange Tales 180 I have has a double cover. I have only 3 double cover books, but all were post-purchase discoveries.

I don't have any cool tats to post but I was wondering if either of you guys have ever come across a comic with no staples. I have a Spider-Man (1990) #6 that would pass as a 9.8 but has no staples (and no staple holes) binding it together. I bought it for a $1
and since it was nicely bagged and boarded I didn't assume anything. Is this imperfection or the double cover you mentioned worth anything more than a copy with no imperfections?

Great stuff as always Scott. You must have a ton of Royer stuff now.

My last haul of the year came a couple days ago when I stopped by Half Price Books during their year end sale.

Picked up a couple of trades-Vol. 1 & 2 of Strangers in Paradise and Jeff Smith's Captain Marvel vs. the Monster Society of Evil...

some vintage paperbacks including the Marvel Return of the Jedi adaptation in paperback format and The Amazing Adventures of Flash Gordon vol. 2 collecting
70s era Flash Gordon strips...

some inexpensive Bronze Age goodness...

all but 3 issues I needed to finish my DNAgents run...

an issue each of Heavy Metal and Epic Illustrated....

a couple of non-comic 70s sci-fi memorabilia pieces....

an issue of Rook and the second DC Graphic Novel Warlords....

a pair of Marvel Preview issue featuring Kull and Merlin and a reading copy of Conan 82 as my copy is signed by Chaykin and currently framed.

an issue of Will Eisner Quarterly and the most recent magazine sized issue of Ed Brubaker's Criminal...

and another big honking book of Frazetta art....

now let's see what the new year brings...

At least 296 comics and dozens of TPBs, hard cover collections, trading cards, and art. In fact...

I'm purchasing the 8 page "Rainbow" story from #15.

Out of gratitude for bringing some of his books to Mike Royer to sign, a friend back east gave me this Batman: The Cult signed by the amazing Berni Wrightson.
