So how did you start collecting?
Growing up I had always watched comic book shows and had always wanted to start collecting but never knew where to start. So, one of my friends who collects comics told me about a store that he had seen many times in the back of Wizard. It just happened that the store is right down the street from me so I decided to go check it out. When I was there, I bought a few books; Ms. Marvel #40, Wolverine: Weapon X #4, and Wolverine: Old Man Logan Giant-Size. My collection then just took on a life of its own and has been growing ever since. How many comics are in collection approximately? Around to 600 What do you like to collect? I collect mostly individual issues from Marvel. Most of these are new issues but some older ones. DC is about to start gaining grown in my collection when the renumbering happens. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Deadpool is by far my most collected character.

Two Years ago My Uncle (former Comic collector) gave me the first few issues of W.C.A. I read those and loved those, but i did not continue collecting. Fast Forward to Christmas 2010. The same Uncle gave me a Pizza hut 4 pack of the x-men (really good BTW) and i wanted B&B for them so i went to what is now my LCS and i was astounded by the back issues they had. I had 100 B&B but only 15 comics to fill them, i had to go back and buy More and more and more of WCA (almost have all 102 issues) Unfortunately they came in B&B so i found the very welcoming dollar bin. they only had bags so i removed the old bags and put new B&B. How many comics are in collection approximately? I have Around 650-675 comic books in my collection! What do you like to collect? I like to collect Marvel Superhero books (past and present), but i have enjoyed Kid Colt greatly (My one issue LOL) and classic EC horror tales! (I read those 4 years ago when i was 9 or 10....i am not messed up in the head [that bad ![]() Fredric Wertham!) But that is a different story! (I have an HC of every Tales from the crypt issue, because i liked the show) Which title/character is most found in your collection? About 300 out of my 650 comics contain none other than the greatest creation since sliced bread...Hawkeye!

Always been a fan of Marvel superheroes, it seems... e'er since I watched the Spider-Man series way back as a youngin'. It was only in the last year that I finally made it into a comic shop and bought some legit comics, though. How many comics are in collection approximately? Probably around 60. I'm still new at this... and lacking a money tree to make expanding my collection easier. What do you like to collect? Silver Age reprints are my favorite right now. I'd rather collect the real deal, for sure, but the reprints are cheap and get me into the origins of the characters that make me such a fan of comics as a whole (I'm also a fan of Silver Age styling). I also like Marvel's Ultimate imprint. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Gambit is, hands down, the character I've most intentionally sought out to collect. I love that Ragin' Cajun.

My collection was up to around 750-800 when my marriage was ending my ex decided to be vindictive and donate all my comics to goodwill. What do you like to collect Right now i'm just starting my collection over so I am mostly picking up new stuff but I think after the new 52 launch i'm probably going to start hunting down so older green lantern and green arrow stuff to add to my collection. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Green Lantern titles hands down. __________________ Skype:michael.meador85 Twitter:@Threeshotwonder PSN:Threeshotwonder |

So how did you start collecting? I started collecting when I walked home from grade school many, many moons ago. It was about a mile walk, so occasionally I would stop at a local pharmacy when I had saved enough of my yard mowing/paper route money for a milk shake at their ice cream fountain in the back of the store. I noticed these colorful magazines on the shelf and looked at them-"Whoa, these are cool!" So I started buying them with the milkshake. First was Batman, but I also regularly got Richie Rich among others. And it all grew from there. Fifteen or more years ago I found a fantastic LCS and through the years picked up many holes in my collection. How many comics are in collection approximately? Well, I finished entering my collection on SMC a couple weeks ago and the total of my public and private stash is 19,994. What do you like to collect? I am currently not collecting anything, as a matter of fact I'm looking at selling about 14,000 of the above mentioned stash(just need to organize a little more). I love Silver Age comics! I'm keeping my Batman, Superman and related family titles. My collection runs from a few in the 1940's through the early 2000's. Which title/character is most found in your collection? The largest runs within my collection are: 1. Superman/Action Comics/Adventure Comics 1229 2. Captain America/Tales of Suspense 986 3. Batman/Detective 985 4. Avengers 969 5. Fantastic Four 947 6. Thor/Journey into Mystery 743 7. Justice League/JLA 602

I watched a lot of comic shows growing up and had been reading manga since elementary school. I finally picked up a Teen Titans trade and really liked Bart Allen (who was then Impulse). I wanted to know more about the character, and found out he had his own series. That lead me to try and track down back issues, which took me to several different stores, and a convention. From there, I just started picking up more and more series. That was about 2005...so I haven't really been reading that long! I kind of jumped right into the deep end... How many comics are in collection approximately I haven't updated my stash in a while...let's say around 2800 to 2900? What do you like to collect Mostly DC comics, and mostly superhero genre. I also read Fables, and some other random titles. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Hmm...Flash (Wally), Green Lantern (Kyle) or one of the Batboys (Dick or Tim). __________________ -Chemist52 Do not meddle in the affairs of chemists, for you are carbon based and will dissolve. |

So how did you start collecting? As a young boy, my father would take me to the newsagency every Sunday when he got the paper, and would buy me either a comic or a Famous Monsters of Filmland. The first comic I ever received was Iron man 63, with Doctor Spectrum in it. I'd say between 3500 and 4000. I haven't put all my comics in the Stash yet, but am up to about 300 so far. I like comics from the 70s best, before crossovers and mega storylines took over, and perhaps comics were a little more innocent. Either Power Man/ Luke Cage or The Punisher

I was at the Flea Market with my brother who was looking for Star Wars stuff and while he was talking to someone I wondered into a small comic store. There I found a ton of 50 cent comics that I looked through and picked out some titles that I heard of before (superman, aquaman). After awhile I came here where you all gave me some great advice and I looked for a title that I could start with and that was of course Green Arrow. How many comics are in collection approximately? I have 182 comics as of now. What do you like to collect? Right now Green Arrow. But after reading them I have found some other titles that I am going to start buying also. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) __________________ ![]() |

When I got married my brother and I split the collection, He kept GI Joe and the X-Titles. I kept everything else (what a great deal huh... :() Stop collecting when my wife and I had two kids. Groupie![]() Joined: 10 January 2011 | So how did you start collecting? I've been reading comics for almost as long as I can remember. In elementary school there were various Lucky Luke, Asterix & Obelix and TinTin comics that I read and re-read all the time. There were also the Richie Rich and Archie comics that I would convince my parents to buy at the grocery store checkout. I didn't really get serious about collecting comics until sometime in 1989. Though it only lasted for a couple of years, I did have a fair sized collection for a kid in junior high. I stopped collecting comics the next year because I thought girls wouldn't be into comics and didn't really have time for them anymore. Then when my father passed away in the spring of 2010, I found my old comics in the basement, all bagged and boarded and remembered how much I enjoyed reading them. I collected them all up and brought them back home to start going through and re-reading them. The spark was lit once again. How many comics are in your collection, approximately? I have fewer than 350 Stashed on SMC, though have another 200 or so kicking around. I separated out some of the older comics that I wasn't as interested in, or haven't gotten around to looking through. What do you like to collect? Right now I'm concentrating on modern, or new comic book series. I have a limited budget, though I seem to push said budget weekly. Then new DC relaunch was a godsend for me, in that it has been a great jumping off spot. There have also been a few new series' from Marvel that have been fun to read through and collect. I may have more Marvel than DC, but I'd have to say that I've enjoyed the DC books more, overall. Which title/character is most found in your collection? I'd have to say it's a toss-up between Batman and Spider-Man. I've always been a fan of both, for different reasons of course. Though I have really enjoyed the Green Hornet series from Dynamite. |

right? So how did you start collecting? I only started about 5 months ago. I've always been a huge gamer, and I've followed a fair amount of Marvel in game format - fighting games and Spider-man games mostly - as well as having watched some of the cartoons as a kid and I still follow all of the comic book movies. I have a few friends who are into graphic novels but it never appealed to me - I'd tried comics as a kid but I always felt they were too short in comparison to a book. That, and I always felt the sheer amount of comics available was a bit daunting as I'd have no idea what to read. That said, I've owned a few manga titles for a couple of years - Devil May Cry and Kingdom Hearts. Again, that's more my gamer side that caused that, though. Anyway... I just moved to Colchester (in the UK, where I live), and for the first time I have access to a decent comic book store. I love going there for game memorabilia and stuff. A little while before the release of Batman: Arkham City on consoles, I had replayed Arkham Asylum and felt like giving a Batman comic book a try, having loved the story and characters (except Batman, haha. While I love his gadgets and stuff, I always find him a bit corny. I just love his villains.) Anyway, I ended up getting a copy of Arkham City HC, as it apparently was a bridge between the two games, and what better time to read it? After enjoying that, (and completing Arkham City on PS3) I found out that DC were *just* relaunching the New 52 which was a perfect time to begin reading, and I started picking up the new Batman and Catwoman series. Now I'm hooked. How many comics are in collection approximately? Exactly 18 comics (8 Marvel, 10 DC) and 6 graphic novels (4 Marvel, 2 DC), totalling to 24. Not a lot I know! I can't believe how many some of you guys have. What do you like to collect? I first tried Batman, Catwoman and Nightwing of the New 52. I've collected all of the Batman/Catwoman comics so far, with Issue #5 ready to pick up tomorrow. Ditched Nightwing after Issue #2 as I didn't find him very interesting. I also tried the new Incredible Hulk, Avenging Spider-Man and Marvel Ultimates series. Have stuck with Incredible Hulk and Avenging Spider-man, but didn't enjoy Ultimates so stopped that after Issue #2. So four comics I'm following at the moment - 2 DC and 2 Marvel. It's a bit early to say which ones I'll enjoy most (though I'll probably follow all of them to the end of the story arc) but I think I prefer Marvel, which isn't a surprise to me really seeing as I always liked the X-Men and Spider-Man as a child. Got some graphic novels for Christmas - including the Killing Joke and Civil War. I can see why the Killing Joke is considered a great read, but so far Civil War is probably the best thing I've read. I just love the friction between sides, and the all-star cast. I also got Ultimate Comics: Avengers which is also written by Mark Millar, and I enjoyed both so I'm going to look into his other work later. I also want to read some more Civil War stuff, such as the Amazing Spider-Man: Civil War. I've just subscribed to the Marvel Ultimate Graphic Novels Collection (as I've talked about in it's own thread), and it seems like an excellent place to get me started. Can't wait to read X-men Dark Phoenix, Iron Man: Extremis and Birth of Venom, as well as some of the more obscure titles in there. It seems well suited to me seeing as the books also give you a run-down of the story so far, as well as "Further reading" and info on the creators of each title. The number #1 thing that matters to me about comic books is a good art style. As an adult I've taken up a much bigger interest in good art (though I suck at making my own), and I can't enjoy a good story in comic book form if I don't like the style. That's why I'm not reading the new Deadpool series. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Catwoman and Batman are the longest series, but only because they started first. I think that including the graphic novels, and Batman's probably in more books than anyone else seeing as he also features in some of Catwoman and two of my graphic novels. I think this will change pretty quickly though, as I'm going to be buying more Marvel than DC stuff in future. Spider-man is probably the next most prevalent character in my series after Batman, but I wouldn't say I have a favourite Marvel character. It's too close and depends what mood I'm in. So that's it! Pretty much my entire comic book history! All I can say is I'm really getting into it, and with 4 comics and 2 graphic novels due once a month, I'm reading at every opportunity I get.

I got mostly stuff I haven't read even once (Weapon Zero), but it got me craving for more. Luckily, a few months later a German publisher put first issues of Ultimate X-Men and Spectacular Spider-Man on our market. Axel Springer struggled for several months but finally gave up on comics. Fast forward a few years, and I live in London, where I discovered a vast universe of comics. I roll up my sleeves and start building up my collection. How many comics are in collection approximately? A thousand, give or take. Plus 100+ Polish editions and reprints. What do you like to collect? I'm a sucker for anything Spider-Man related. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Spider-Man, no doubt. I have about 300 issues and several TPBs. Second one would be... I think Y: The Last Man or Green Lantern with 50-something issues. |

The movies or boredom (from having all that time I wasn't gaming!) would have no doubt pushed me that way :P I'd say it's more just an interest in fantasy stories and stuff :) But then, I guess it was the Arkham games that really made me like Batman. I also started collecting when a comic shop opened close to where I lived, so I took my allowance and bought comics with it. My "unofficial" count is 1,456. It is unofficial because I moved from my parents house to another state back in 2003, and I didn't bring my comics with me. I will one day have to take a road trip and get them! This number is also about to jump because I am getting 35 comics with my comic book membership from Cardsone.com, and then I am purchasing a comic package totaling 50 pounds within the next few days. What do you like to collect? I am a sucker for the 90's comics, the ones with foil covers, polybagged with a trading card...all of those gimmick comics. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Although I am more of a Marvel fan, I would have to say that the character most found in my collection is Batman. |

I've been collecting for roughly 35 years. My father collected the old EC comics (Tales from the Crypt, etc.), so I inherited the comic-collecting gene from him. When I bought an early Spider-Man comic, I was hooked and have been hooked ever since. I actually gave up comics about 10 years ago after being disappointed with the mediocre stories through the 90s. But when I looked through some Straczynci issues in Spider-Man, I started up again and have been collecting more than ever thanks to new writers such as Bendis, Hickman, Brubaker, and so forth. How many comics are in collection approximately? Roughly 8500. What do you like to collect? I've been a Marvel fan forever, so the vast majority of what I collect comes from them, Spidey, Hulk, Avengers, etc., although I have been collecting much more of DC's stuff lately ever since Identity Crisis and John's work on Green Lantern. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Spider-Man, no doubt, over 1,000 in that stash alone.

I'm not alone! haha Seriously. I'm working on collecting a few older series right now... ones that interest me, aren't really available in TPB form, and are fairly inexpensive on a per-issue basis. Namely, I'm snatching up Azrael, Cable, and Deathstroke, getting most issues for around a buck a piece through the StashMyComics affiliate store. Not sure why, exactly, but something about those comics appeal to me. Many people I know hate on 90's comics, but I love 'em. They gave me Gambit! :D @LeonBelmontX: Yay! You read my article! haha

I was in Canada (Toronto to be exact) to look over my cousins at the age of 5 and 7 as far as I recall, so my uncle paid for flight and my stay. Since they are in their teens, I don't think they need a babysitter anymore :p. I loved Toronto for it's diversity and lots of parks. |

There were comic books in my life from my earliest memories. Growing up with two older sisters, I remember them both being big fans of all the ARCHIE titles as well as all sorts of romance comics. My parents bought me comics too & lots of 'em as a wee lad, but the first comic book that I distinctly recall owning was AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #78. Which my Mom got for me at the local drugstore when I was 8. From that day on I was hooked & was seriously into collecting by the time I was ten. And, it being the early '70s, I was able to put together complete or near complete runs of all the most popular Marvel titles within a few years time ( with plenty of help from my parents, of course ). I continued collecting all the way up until I was 18, when, as I was preparing to go to college I decided to not only stop collecting, but to sell off my 3500 comics as well. Which I did in short order, against my parents wishes, for just a fraction of what they were worth at the time. Something that I began to regret damned near immediately afterwards. Fact is, I was so sick about it that I could barely look at a comic book for years without being tormented by feelings of remorse. Seriously. So much so that in the mid-'90s when I began to collect all the Topps THE X-FILES comics, I didn't consider it to even remotely be a return to comic collecting, I just looked at it as adding to my X-FILES memorabilia collection. It wasn't until two years ago in 2010 that I got back into comic book collecting. Initially, I had just gone into my LCS to look for the first issue of Dark Horse's reboot of an old favorite of mine in CREEPY, which I'd read a story about in FANGORIA magazine. But, once I got inside the shop, something just "clicked" & I walked out with a stack of books. At 48 years old, some 30 years removed from the last time I'd collected, I became a comic book collector again. And here I am at 50, enjoying the hobby more than I have at any other time of my life. How many comics are in collection approximately? At the moment, I'm just a wee bit shy of 1300. What do you like to collect? Too many titles for my budget that's for sure! LOL But, my focus is predominantly on Spider-man & horror titles. ASM, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, AVENGING SPIDER-MAN, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, FERALS, DARK SHADOWS, SWAMP THING, BATMAN & a handful of others are on my pull list. With my back issues focus being on ASM, ULTIMATE SPIDER- MAN, CROSSED & WEST COAST AVENGERS. Which title/character is most found in your collection? Spider-man. __________________ Jim |
