I'm re-reading this for the first time since the original read - approximately 25 or so years ago. I'm not as impressed with the artwork now as I was then, but the story and pacing still make this a fun read. I remember reading this way back then, and how much my friends and I looked forward to this Spidey title every month. It wasn't the same after McFarlane left, even though Erik Larsen's run wasn't bad. After E.L. left, I thought this book was pretty much un-readable.

One of the best comics from the 90's for many reasons (in my humble opinion). Not only did Todd McFarlane illustrate this adjective-less Spidey title, he wrote for it as well. His proving grounds before taking on Spawn a about year later. Anyway, the finished product came out artsy with longer, drawn out stories that focused on a couple characters and conflicts at a time. Similar to a mini-series. The "Torment" story arc is my first, defining experience with Lizard. Pete gets his much appreciated embellished web-lines and some iconic poses from this run. A side bar: McFarlane depicts a few bloody scenes throughout this ish' and I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the Comics Code.

This cover kicks butt! Interior art may not have been perfect, but the pacing is fab and the horror element pulls you in.
