This story is considered to be Batman's first encounter of the Joker in the modern age of the DC Universe (post-Crisis, pre-Flashpoint, and definitely pre-New 52). Bruce Wayne still is a bit reckless when it comes to fighting crime, criminals, and theatrical villains of Gotham but this is the introduction to the madness that ensues in the Batman mythos when it comes to the Caped Crusader and the Clown Prince of Crime.
