A pretty decent start for the new Detective Comics volume. It was wise to give a classic Batman vs. Joker issue as the #1, but it eventually does become apparent that Joker is only a passing reference in another, larger story that will play out in future issues. And that's a good thing. A second volume of Detective Comics could easily serve as a springboard for introing new villains for Batman to face.
Never been a huge DC fan but figured this would be a good time to get into Batman's story. First issue doesn't disappoint. Very gritty, dark, and creative. It's consistent with Arkham City/Asylum games which I like and have the same feel. Look forward to this series and it will stay on my pull list.
Great start for a Batman story! Some of the best opening pages I have seen. I love the new villains. I plan to follow the entire series.
Wish this was a bit more of a detective story. I don't want to know what's going on all the time.
This issue brought exactly what I was hoping for Batman. While Batman has limited speaking parts, he has a lot of internal monologue that I was expecting. The Joker is crazy and his insanity is portrayed very well in this issue. There was a good action to story ratio allowing for development of the story while maintaining the reader’s attention. The art was done well and really captured the dark feel of the story. With one issue down, this title has already hooked me.
