"It's the comic book event a decade in the making! The all-new Valiant Universe kicks off with a landmark, oversized # 1 issue of X-O Manowar by New York Times-bestselling author Robert Venditti (The Surrogates, The Homeland Directive) and Eisner Award-winning artist Cary Nord (Conan)! Born into battle, Aric of Dacia -- heir to the throne of the Visigoth people -- has never known peace. After a brutal encounter with a mysterious enemy known as The Vine leaves him a prisoner on an incomprehensible world, the only hope Aric has of returning to his family and saving them from slavery is to seize a weapon of incalculable destruction and become X-O Manowar! The Vine destroyed Aric's world. Now he will give them war."

I have to agree with most of these reviews. This is the way you relaunch a classic, right here. I've never been a huge X-O fan, but I knew the general concepts of the story and the beginnings. After reading this book, I'm a believer. I'll be adding to my pull list immediately. The story and the art, it's everything I expected out of this book. The team really delivered and has earned my loyalty on this one. I'll be following from here on out. Awesome read!
A solid first issue for a revamped classic title, which is an impressive feat when you think about it. Any relauch that can hold its own against the classic original is deserving of a high rating.
Great start to a good series.
Great first issue and what a reboot should look like. The art is amazing as it goes from 400 A.D. Romans and Visigoths to aliens. This comic oozes with style and the writing is well done. I like that the first issue takes it nice and slow as I am dying for the next issue. This issue also sets up a couple of mysteries that they clearly will want to develop in this series or possibly in another future comic. Definitely a good comeback for Valiant with this issue.
Story and art were good but was not what I was expecting. By the end of the issue I did not really feel the need to know what was going to happen next issue.
The relaunch of X-O Manowar does not disappoint. The hype has officially been backed by solid evidence of Valiant's committment to quality in story and art. This issue was VERY well rounded, and has me drooling over what's to come. Excited to see what else Valiant has coming, but this alone makes me happy. If you're on the fence then it's time to pay your LCS a visit and BUY THIS BOOK!!
