If you've ever seen the 1985 film, with Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger, you know Red Sonja is a badass. This version of her is a reboot of sorts and a chance for new readers, myself included, to jump on at a point that explains a bit about her origins and her stature in the world she inhabits. Dynamite has been printing Sonja comics since 2005 and tasked Gail Simone with her re-invigoration. While this first issue is a bit slow as far as story goes, Simone is clearly laying the foundations for the story to come. The art in this book is fantastic however, and the many variant covers are equally beautiful. I'd recommend this as a good starting point for anyone interested in a sexy, redheaded, bikini-clad warrior woman.
