The Dark Phoenix Saga really kicks off as Jean fully becomes Dark Phoenix for the first time. The X-Men are easily beaten, after which Phoenix flies of to feed. The second half of the story is about Phoenix travelling the universe, feeding and fighting of a Shi'ar Battleship. It's a great setup for the rest of the saga and an enormously important event in the Marvel universe.
