Covenant lays half unconscious in the leprotic dungeon in which he was thrown. In the blackness, half-eaten by rats, he makes contact with two other prisoners, but continues to drift in and out of consciousness. Covenant is visited by Marcellus, they boy he saved; the same boy who turned him in. Marcellus wants the Hellspawn to see his fate and to see Brakertts plan: To avoid starvation, Brakert had been farming humans for consumption. But Covenant remembers an old lesson from Cog, and turns the tables on his captors.
