Reread 2020: For some reason I found this volume deeply more engaging than the first. While I also forgot this story 20 years ago, this time it was decently fun, dealing with Jean gaining some empathy and perspective about Wolverine's all too quick change of heart in Vol. 1. Ultimate Nick Fury is introduced and it seems his rise in SHIELD is due in part of Xavier's manipulations. Millar does have me wondering just what kind of Xavier we've got & he seems to be akin to McAvoy's Dark Phoenix rendition. Most characters don't get development or personality, which is a shame, given personality is largely why I fell in love with the 616 X-folk. Kubert's art seems less x-treme this time, and Raney's fill-ins passable. Do I need to reread: doubtful
