Episode Six is no secret to Matt and Neil, although they do spend the end of the episode gushing about their favorite canceled DC title, Secret Six for this weeks Special Feature. Before that, the guys review DC Comics Justice League Dark #1 by Peter Milligan and Mikel Janin. Neil is happy he borrowed this from Matt and hopes to catch up one day with the trades. Matt gets to read Marvel Comics Uncanny Avengers #1 by Rick Rememder and John Cassaday that Neil recently picked up. Coming off of the Avengers vs. X-Men event, the guys are having a major problem with the attitudes of a lot of the members of this new team. Hope you enjoy the episode!

  • Review #1 (2:11) DC Comics – Justice League Dark #1
  • Review #2 (15:40) Marvel Comics – Uncanny Avengers #1

I found Neil’s review of JLD very interesting. I think the first arc of JLD was kind of shaky (I did like the first issue) but I think it’s because the first arc was scattered and I think it crossed over too soon with other books (that I admittedly didn’t pick up). I think the change in writers improved the book because it was with that change that the group started to become a cohesive group with a semi-common purpose. It is still one of those comics that I look forward to every month. I think it’s great that there is a title that focuses on the magic characters of the DCU because many “uninitiated” don’t know many of these characters exist, I know I didn’t prior to reading comics. I am also really excited that it looks like Frankenstein is being moved to JLD with his book cancellation, it should make the book even more interesting and maybe it’ll help it move away from being “Constantine and Friends.” Though I do agree that some characters disappeared just as you were learning about them, but maybe they’ll come back later using Comic Logic, “Shade was trapped in an alternate reality vortex until he got his mind semi-straight.”

I don’t know much about X-Men comics because I don’t read many Marvel Titles, but interesting comments on that as well. Almost makes me interested, but I think I’ll stick to DC for now.

I’ve read a couple of issues of Secret Six, though I couldn’t tell you whether or not those were from the six issue limited or the ongoing, but I was sold on it at “Gail Simone wrote it.” Simone has a wonderful talent for writing beautifully complex and broken characters that you can’t help but root for (despite those who love to hate on Batgirl).

Another great show guys, I can’t wait for the next one!

Thanks Valerie for your comments. Frankenstein on JLD just might make me pick it up again! Pick up the first Secret Six trade on Amazon, it’s one of my faves. Thanks for listening!
