Teen Wolf Review: Battlefield

Teen Wolf LogoGerard threatens Scott in order to get him to give up Derek. Peter tries to gain Derek’s trust. And once again I am a sobbing mess from beginning to end.

We’re going to start with Stiles. If you’ve read any of my other Teen Wolf reviews you’ll know that Stiles is my favorite character so I have to talk about him. In the beginning of the episode we see Stiles talking to Ms. Morrell, the guidance counselor. I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen on television. Visually and emotionally, tt’s stunning. Stiles vocalizes his feelings and fears, which is not something we typically see from him. His emotions can usually be read in his face (thanks to incredible performances from Dylan O’Brien), but he rarely talks about his feelings. Later, during the Lacrosse game, Stiles opens up to Scott as well about how helpless he feels. He’s such a strong character and it’s truly heartbreaking to see him admit how scared he is. (Also can I just mention real quick that he finally got to play in a lacrosse game for the first time! I couldn’t be prouder if he were my own son.)

Stiles with MorrellNext we have Derek and his pack. Erica and Boyd don’t feel safe anymore and want to join another pack (which isn’t a pack, but Allison and the Argents thus leading to their capture). While I have a lot of pack family feelings, I can understand why they would want to leave. Derek hasn’t been the best alpha. He hasn’t taught them how to use their powers and control themselves all that well and he doesn’t treat them too well either. Instead of treating them like they’re part of a family (which is how a pack should function in my opinion) he treats them like lackeys. It’s easy to see why there’s no sense of loyalty between Derek and the rest of the pack. Derek is also confronted by the recently resurrected Peter. Peter tries to convince Derek that he’s only here to help, but Derek is not so easily convinced. It’s not even about Derek not trusting Peter. Derek doesn’t trust anyone, right now. Every time he begins to trust someone it blows up in his face (Kate and Scott being the best examples of this). Peter tells Derek that he can save Jackson by using the power of love (I’m not joking) to pull him back from being completely eclipsed by the kanima. It’s a totally cheesy, but I’ll buy it for now.

Peter Derek Teen WolfLast, but not least Scott. Isaac shows up at Dr. Deaton’s office and tells Scott that he trusts him. This is a really big deal because Isaac is part of Derek’s pack and he’s the one that Derek has shown the most favor to. If Isaac trusts Scott then maybe Derek will start to as well (though this will probably be a long ways off because, yeah, Derek’s not going to trust Scott again anytime soon). At the lacrosse game, Gerard threated to have Jackson kill someone if Scott doesn’t give up Derek by the end of the game. Of course Derek doesn’t show up. So who dies? Jackson. Jackson kills himself. Whether or not this is part of Gerard’s plan is unclear, but I’m a mess at this moment. I’m crying for Jackson as Melissa tries to revive him. I’m crying for Lydia who looks so pitiful because she has no idea how to help save the person she loves. And just when I think I couldn’t get any worse, Papa Stilinski can’t find Stiles. Stiles is missing. I’m dry heaving and falling out of my chair, sobbing on the floor. And that’s the end of the episode. Now I just have to find someway to continue living until I know that Stiles is ok.

Next week is the season finale. I don’t know how much more of a beating my emotions can take.

I don’t watch Teen Wolf but my favorite part of these reviews is to read about your emotional turmoil. Does this make me a bad person?

Not at all, Jason. We love Kelly’s emotional trumoil on the podacast too. 😉
