Since DC launched the New 52 I have only been picking up Lantern related titles. I will go ahead and say the Kyle Rayner is my favorite Green Lantern so when I started enjoying GLC more than New Guardians I was fairly surprised. Of the four GL titles Green Lantern Corps has been the most intriguing to me. This issue ends the first arc of the new series, so how good was it?

This issue picks up where the last one left off, John Stewart and a handful of GLs have been captured by the Keepers and Guy Gardner has rustled up some Lanterns to rescue them. Since the Keepers are somewhat resistant to their rings the GLs have outfitted themselves with weapons. The GLs rescue their brothers in arms and defeat the Keepers and the Guardians, using Guy’s suggestion, pass judgement that the Keepers will have to spend the rest of their lives digging graves for their victims.

Andy Kubert Green Lantern Corps #6 CoverPeter Tomasi seemed rushed to finish the story, it seemed to jump around a lot from one point to the other and was a bit hurried. That being said, it was still well written and enjoyable.  Overall, this was a pretty good start to the new series. Learning about where the batteries went to when the GLs weren’t using them was pretty cool. What I like the most is this title should primarily be about the Corps, and it is, but pairing up John and Guy was brilliant because they are two men who would do anything for the Corps. It is really evident from this issue that they both are willing to go to whatever lengths necessary to insure the safety of the Corps.

The art from Fernando Pasarin didn’t blow me away, it was alright but seemed mediocre, and that cover is just way too reminiscent of the 90s for my tastes. Don’t get me wrong, the art inside isn’t bad or anything, but it just wasn’t something that appealing to look at. The fight scenes were well drawn, a couple depictions of the battle were cool, and the art flowed well. But, there was just nothing really spectacular to about it.

Since the new 52 didn’t change much about the Green Lanterns backstory, I wouldn’t really recommend this series to someone unfamiliar with the recent events in the GL canon. However, if you are familiar with the current history and haven’t picked this title up, I definitely encourage you to give it a try.

Art: 6/10
Script: 8/10
